Overview
As an Appium Automation Quality Engineer (contractor) at Very Good Ventures, you will play a pivotal role being responsible for improving the quality and reliability of our client's software applications through meticulous functional testing techniques. Your primary focus will be to identify and define testing scenarios, verify application readiness and report defects, test bug fixes, and contribute to the overall improvement of our products and processes. Specific projects may need automation skills at either UI or API layers.
Responsibilities & Expectations
- Automation Testing: Develop, and execute automated test scripts for mobile applications on Android and iOS platforms, using Java with Appium and Maven. Ensure seamless integration of automated tests within the CI/CD pipeline and utilize cross-browser tools like BrowserStack to validate functionality across multiple environments.
- Test Execution: Execute automated and manual test cases to validate the functionality, usability, and reliability of software products, ensuring they meet specified requirements. Assess application readiness across different platforms and devices to determine automation suitability. Execute UI automated tests, evaluate results, and provide comprehensive testing reports to stakeholders.
- Defect Identification, Reporting, and Tracking: Identify, document, and report software defects with detailed steps to reproduce, in a clear and concise manner. Perform root cause analysis for identified issues and manage defects throughout the testing lifecycle, prioritizing and defining severity based on impact.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with developers, product managers, clients, and cross-functional teams to facilitate effective communication and prompt issue resolution. Adhere to pre-established automation and testing guidelines, ensuring alignment with the broader QA strategy. Demonstrate proactive engagement, innovative problem-solving, and a commitment to enhancing the quality of mobile applications.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute actively to the enhancement of testing processes, methodologies, and best practices to drive overall product quality.
Success Metrics
The main goal is to increase the automated test coverage.
Next, success metrics will be listed:
- Flakiness Rate: Percentage of automated tests that fail intermittently without actual defects. A lower flakiness rate indicates high-quality, stable scripts.
- Test Maintenance Rate: Frequency of fixes or updates required for scripts due to issues in the code (as opposed to legitimate changes in the application).
- Script Reusability: Frequency with which existing scripts can be reused or adapted for new releases with minimal changes. High reusability indicates well-structured, maintainable scripts.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of overall experience as an Automation Quality Engineer.
- At least 1 year of experience with Appium in Java frameworks, Selenium for mobile, and BrowserStack (essential).
- Highly fluent verbal and written communication skills in English (mandatory).
- Hands-on experience with functional testing techniques to ensure comprehensive test coverage and reliable results.
- Meticulous in verifying application behavior, ensuring test accuracy, and maintaining thorough, precise documentation.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot issues, investigate defects, and propose effective solutions for a variety of testing challenges.
- Strong team player with a collaborative mindset, willing to share knowledge and continuously learn from others.
- Flexibility to respond to shifting project requirements and priorities with ease.
