We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced CPE Protocol Tester to join our customer team in out Managed Service division. The ideal candidate will be responsible for testing and validating Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) for compliance and interoperability with our Auto Configuration Server (ACS). This role focuses on ensuring that modems, gateways, and other managed devices adhere to Broadband Forum standards TR-69 (CWMP) and TR-369 (USP), guaranteeing seamless device management, provisioning, and monitoring for our customers.
MainResponsibilityAreas
- Test Plan Development & Execution:Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases for CPE devices to validate TR-69 and TR-369 protocol functionality against the Motive HDM ACS.
- Protocol Validation:Perform rigorous testing of the CPE data models, RPCs (Remote Procedure Calls), event notifications, and firmware upgrade procedures as defined by TR-69 and TR-369 specifications.
- Interoperability Testing:Verify seamless interaction between various CPE hardware (gateways, routers, ONTs) and the Motive HDM platform, ensuring accurate data retrieval, configuration updates, and diagnostics.
- Defect Management:Identify, document, and track software and firmware defects using bug-tracking systems (e.g., Jira). Collaborate with CPE vendors and customer development teams to facilitate timely resolutions.
- Log Analysis:Analyse protocol traces (Wireshark, tcpdump), device logs, and ACS server logs to troubleshoot complex interoperability issues and pinpoint root causes of failures.
- Automation:Assist in the development and maintenance of automated test scripts and frameworks to improve the efficiency and repeatability of the testing process.
- Documentation:Create and maintain detailed documentation, including test results, technical reports, and best practice guidelines for CPE onboarding.
KeySkills &Competencies:
- Proven experience in testing network devices, specifically CPE such as DSL modems, fiber ONTs, or cable gateways.
- Strong, hands-on knowledge of the TR-69 (CWMP) protocol, its data models, and RPC methods.
- Familiarity with the TR-369 (User Services Platform - USP) protocol and its architecture.
- Direct experience working with an Auto Configuration Server (ACS).
- Proficiency in analysing network traffic using tools like Wireshark.
- Solid understanding of fundamental networking protocols and concepts, including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, and HTTP/HTTPS.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience with scripting languages for test automation (e.g., Python or Shell).
- Knowledge of related Broadband Forum standards (e.g., TR-181, TR-106, TR-143).
- Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Docker) and Linux/Unix environments.
- Familiarity with test management tools like Jira and Jenkins.
